LightGSM EMS manages LightGSM Server (MSC/BSC) and associated BTS. The LightGSM System provides comprehensive system management, which includes Fault, Configuration, Accounting, Security and Performance (FCAPS), management functions. The system management philosophy is based on the general management framework as defined in Telecom Management Network (TMN) Architecture of the ITU.
The OMC and the EMS are the two management nodes, which provide a GUI based Man Machine Interface (MMI) through which the operator manages the LightGSM System. OMC is used for local management of the system while the EMS is used for centralized management of multiple LightGSM Systems.
mView: Element Management System
- mView manages multiple LightGSM Network Elements (which could either be co-located or otherwise)
- mView manages the Network Elements through IP connectivity
- mView displays the top-level topology and tree, displaying icons for each logical group, each NE along with its status
- From mView, the operator can drill down to the logical group level, particular NE level, shelf level, card level & up to slot level (as applicable)
GUI OMC: Local Management at NE
- Local Management at each Network Element through Ethernet
- Needed during initial system commissioning & also during network failure
- Client server architecture
- Simultaneous access possible from EMS and GUI-OMC
- Java API based standard North Bound Interface (NBI) to connect to higher level NMS system
- Java based GUI client
- Internationalization - display & user input in local languages
- Remote software download from EMS/GUI-OMC to all the network elements
- Topology based hierarchical representation of networks & network elements
Fault Management
- The current alarms are displayed in the main screen of the EMS/GUI-OMC
- All sub-system (MSC, BSC, BTS etc.,) status (UP/DOWN)
alarms
- E1 slots allocation threshold alarms
- I/O operations error indication alarms
- BTS temperature threshold alarms etc.,
Configuration Management
- System and sub-system version numbers display
- MSC server node configuration
- Viewing of VLR records
- System clock configurations
Maintenance Management
- System Chassis view which is updated real time
- Software download
- System and sub-system level reset
- ISUP maintenance
- System log viewer
- Integrated telnet console
Performance Management
- Call and SMS statistics at System, BTS and Subscriber level
- Ethernet interface statistics between MSC and BTS
- E1 slot level statistics
- BTS channel status
- Link utilization statistics
Security Management
- All security features are available as part mView EMS framework.
